All your pregnancy questions answered Previous: Miscarriages [Spontaneous abortions] After a miscarriage Other common queries of patients who have undergone a miscarriage.
As it is very unusual to find anything abnormal, doctors do not usually investigate a patient unless she has had two or more consecutive miscarriages. Investigations to look for a cause for a miscarriage are expensive and probably justified if a patient has had repeated abortions. Most women have a normal pregnancy after one or two miscarriages whether they are investigated or not.
If you have any of the above you must contact your doctor
You should try to avoid getting pregnant for atleast 2 cycles after your miscarriage. As you start to ovulate immediately you should think of some contraception during those 2 cycles. You should take a Folic Acid supplementation in that period
You should see your doctor as soon as you miss your periods and he may put you on some natural progesterone supplements [injections or vaginal tablets] to reduce the chances of a repeat miscarriage.
As I said earlier most miscarriages are "one off" events which will have no bearing on your future pregnancies. Your chance of conceiving normally, having a normal pregnancy and delivery will be like any other woman who has not had any miscarriage.
